High School Credit Attainment for Adult Learners

Seven Oaks School District

Many adult learners in Seven Oaks School District struggle with low literacy, justice issues, and social support cuts, but parents with caregiving duties face an added layer of challenges.

Many adult learners in Seven Oaks School District struggle with low literacy, justice issues, and social support cuts, but parents with caregiving duties face an added layer of challenges. Transport and food gaps increase absenteeism, meaning parents are less likely to attain the required credits versus peers.

This Northpine investment supports this program to offer parent learners simple fixes like bus tickets, healthy lunches, and monthly food hampers to boost attendance, especially for parents working towards their Mature Student diplomas.

This builds on the success of pilots where childminding boosted participation via fridges for snacks and prioritized supports near social housing. It tackles root challenges so parents can study full-time, paving paths to high school diplomas, meaningful work, or post-secondary education for Winnipeg caregivers.
